Besides the part where I had to check into my first hostel at 3 in the morning in the dark, it is a really neat experience. They have internet, a cool lounge area, breakfast ( hard cooked eggs and toast; I feel very British!), and my personal favorite: air conditioning.

Yesterday, we explored the city for a bit as a group. Most of us took a ride on the Singapore Flyer, the world's tallest ferris wheel, to get a bird's eye view of the city. Then we ate Taiwanese food at a restaurant near Chinatown. My most daring food adventure as of yet was the dessert, which consisted of Chinese medicinal jelly, yam paste, and some tofu-custard type dish. After a stroll through the market, and a long, humid walk back to the hotel, we rested for a bit before a group dinner at a barefoot Indian restaurant. i wasn't feeling well, but the food was delicious and we got to experience eating from the floor.

After dinner, we came back and Jocelyn led our first team bible study. We are going through the book of John together. My favorite part in the first few chapters is the section about the wedding at Cana. I've enjoyed that passage ever since Pastor McDonald spoke about it at his last sermon this year. I like the illustration of Mary coming to Jesus with the problem they are having. Though running out of wine might seem like an inconsequential problem for Jesus to fix as his first miracle, he uses the opportunity to demonstrate who He is. Mary's response is also significant because even after a lukewarm response to her initial request, she still trusts he will take care of the problem and sets up appropriate means for this to occur by instructing the servants to follow Jesus' orders. It's a beautiful example of how our prayer life is today, even though we don't converse with God in his physical form.

That's all for now, I think we are going to go explore a small island and possibly the arts festival. Trying to keep it low key to make sure my health is full speed when we reach our first mission sight in a few days.
Love <&3 God Bless, Mollie
